Perpetrator Programme: Respect Model
MENSCAPE offers a Domestic Abuse Perpetrator Programme (DAPP) incorporating the Respect Model, including materials and programme standards (Behaviour change work). It aims to raise awareness of domestic abuse, its impact, and encouraging behaviour change. This is a structured, 24-week, one-to-one online intervention for individuals who want to take responsibility for harmful or abusive behaviour within intimate or family relationships.
The programme is delivered by Roy Akins, a Respect-trained facilitator and qualified, registered Social Worker with over 25 years of professional experience. He has worked at both practitioner and managerial levels across the Criminal Justice System, including Youth Justice, Probation, and Prisons, with extensive one-to-one experience working with perpetrators of domestic abuse across all levels of risk, alongside over five years’ experience as a Domestic Abuse Perpetrator Lead in Children’s Social Care.
The intervention is grounded in evidence-informed domestic abuse practice and focuses on:
Increasing accountability for behaviour
Understanding patterns of abuse, power, and control
Developing safer alternatives to abusive responses
Reducing risk of harm to partners and children
This programme is currently intended for self-referring individuals who are not subject to current criminal proceedings and who are willing to engage openly and responsibly with the work. This service is offered for self-referring individuals as a voluntary, private intervention, who are motivated to address harmful or abusive behaviour in their relationships.
The work includes a structured midway review and a final review, with a written report provided to the participant on completion. The report is for personal use, outlining engagement with the work and the participant’s own reflections. It is not an assessment of risk, safety, or change, and does not provide professional opinions or recommendations. Any sharing with professionals is the participant’s choice.
